About Douklar

Douklar is built by Hummatovic, on one rule: if DevOps engineers keep doing something by hand, there should be a tool for it.

Updated

Created by Hummatovic

Douklar is created and maintained by Nijat Hummatović (Hummatovic), a cloud and DevOps engineer working with AWS, Terraform and Kubernetes. Hummatovic founded Douklar to take the repetitive work out of DevOps.

The rule behind every tool is simple: if a DevOps engineer keeps doing it by hand, there should be a tool for it. Each tool's docs say what it does, where it stops, and which native AWS feature fits a job better when one does.

Why Douklar exists

AWS has good tools for most data movement. Replication keeps a destination current, and the source account’s owner sets it up. AWS Backup keeps restorable copies inside one Organization. DataSync and S3 Batch Operations move very large amounts of storage.

A one-time move of images, objects, repositories and table items between accounts, often accounts that share no Organization or owner, falls between them. Teams do it by hand, one service at a time. Douklar was made for that move.

How it was shaped

  • One workflow for four kinds of data. Accounts, discovery, mappings, preflight, the run, verification and Activity are the same steps for ECR, S3, CodeCommit and DynamoDB.
  • One profile in each account. The accounts do not have to share an Organization or an owner.
  • Self-hosted. It runs on your own machine with your AWS credentials, as a web console and the douklar CLI over one core.
  • A record of every run. Activity keeps attempted, succeeded, skipped and failed counts per service, and says “Not recorded” instead of showing a zero it does not know.
  • Says where it stops. Each service page and comparison names the AWS feature that fits a job better when there is one.

AWS first, not AWS only

Douklar starts with AWS: it is the platform its maker works on every day, and the one whose gaps inspired the tool. Today Douklar moves data between AWS accounts and Regions only. Other cloud platforms are planned, and requests decide which comes first: request the platform you need.

The tools

Douklar, the flagship, is a self-hosted workspace for moving AWS data between accounts and Regions: ECR images, S3 objects, CodeCommit repositories and DynamoDB items. It runs on your own machine with your AWS credentials and is a developer preview.

Alongside it are smaller tools, each with its own licence: SSM Explorer, a read-only CLI for Parameter Store, and Agent Workspace, a Terraform module for a personal AI agent workstation on AWS. See every project.
